Paranormal Road Trip (Minneapolis to Jackson WY and Back!)

Road Trip Music!!

Spring Break is always a tough vacation to plan for us. We're from Puerto Rico so we head down to the Caribbean every Christmas. As a result, we don't really feel like having another beach vacation in March. But if we head up north, it's too cold, and, if we head south, it's too slushy. It's a problem.

This year we decided to take a classic (sort of, we added out own paranormal twist, or course) American road trip. Minnesota is pretty close to iconic American stops like the Badlands and Mount Rushmore, which we've always wanted to visit, and we have a big minivan with T.V. set so the kids can be comfortable and entertained. We decided to try to make it all the way to one of my husband's favorite town, Jackson, WY. We went there years ago and fell in love with the town and the mountains. We wanted to see it again, this time with (some) snow on the ground.

The best item to protect you from Sasquatch attacks is a camera. In other news, Reddit Sasquatch thread devolves into beef jerky recipe exchange.

How I made $500,000 self-publishing romance novels. Great Kboards post with lots of crunchy numbers.

Nigella Lawson makes Halloween cupcakes (or faery cakes, as she calls them).

Penny Reid's newsletter advice. Yes, I'm about to release a new newsletter. You should subscribe. You'll get the first Ghost Hunters After Dark story right away and the second one (Scottish Egyptologist, pyramids, mummies!) before the end of the year.

Maybe you don't need a kickass first line. Good to hear since I'm not good at first lines. I keep working and working at them, but the hooks elude me.

Heroes and Heartbreakers has a post on romances based on Astrology. Pretty cool! One of my plot bunnies features an astrologer heroine (based on Susan Miller of Astrology Zone fame) so I'm interested to see if this trend has legs.

Is Ghost Hunters fake?

Penny Watson on staying outside the box. This is a really cool post. People who write different (quirky!) book can be successful too. That's good to see.

A post that claims that publishers should stop grading author's social media performance...then goes on to tell them how to grade it more effectively. *facepalm* There's some clunkers here (newsflash, authors can pad their mailing lists with dud subscribers), but there's also some interesting tidbits. For example, I didn't know that email was 40% more effective than social media. Yikes, that's a big difference. BTW, here's a link to my newsletter sign-up page. You know what to do. ;)

Fabulous vblog on book covers. Lots of great advice.

Treasure hunters explore New York's sewer system, get caught by police. Bizarre. My PRoVE guys visit a lot of strange places, including museums, campgrounds, abandoned castles, and tacky mansion, but they'd never go into a sewer. They would, however, visit New York's City Hall subway station, which was abandoned in 1945. That sounds like a great book setting.

Zak Bagans...ghost hunter extraordinaire. The best part is...he retweeted it!

I've Dated Several...

Zak Bagans discusses his love life and gives me a great idea for a book.

I've been wondering what to do about Caine, the leader of PRoVE, Banshee Creek's paranormal investigations group. He's a biker with a Ph.D. in Physics and he's super crazy and super smart. I wrote him in as a supporting character, but he's become a huge fan favorite and readers are already asking for his book. Like, as soon as he shows up on the page people start asking about his book. It's insane. It's also a problem because I never expected to write his book and I have no idea what his HEA would look like. Now, thanks to Zak, the plot bunnies are starting to breed.
