Emily Henderson on picking a book cover! How fantastic is this post? My favorite designer talking about how to design a book cover. I love the fact that her book over took almost as many drafts as mine. It makes me feel better about the gazillion cover mock-ups I have in my hard drive.

The Cliffs of Insanity! Awesome KBoards thread on the 30/60/90 days Amazon "cliffs." Really good info. (BTW, here's a behind the scenes look at the making of that scene. I didn't know they actually filmed it on the Cliffs of Dover. Wow.)

Great advice from JA Konrath.

Trending on Amazon WriteOn

Ghost of a Chance is trending on Amazon WriteOn! Yeay. I think it's mostly because I'm updating it so often, but, still, it's kind of cool. :)

Also, that Dog Walker book looks really intriguing. Fantastic cover.

An interesting Kboards thread on who the Amazon algos and  recommendation e-mails work. I'm still digesting this one.

Great Self-Publishing Roundtable podcast with Roxie Rivera and Zoe York. Lots of great advice including this gem: "Market smarter, not harder."

I also found this Roundtable podcast with Deanna Chase very useful because I've been agonizing over my author branding for months. My books are funny and lighthearted but also really steamy. Humorous paranormal books have cartoon covers (like Deanna Chase's Jade Calhoun series), but sexy paranormal have collage covers with sexy couples in them. I went the sexy couple route, but have been second-guessing my decision ever since. Deanna faced the same dilemma with her sexy Coven Point series, and guess what? She went for the sexy couple covers. Whew. That's a relief.

Should you take the KU plunge? I always planned to go Amazon exclusive, at least for the first couple on months, but this KB thread is very interesting.

Rachel Aaron cranks out some KU numbers. Full length novels seem to do quite well in the new KU environment. That makes me feel a bit better about my main series being all 100K books. I was getting a bit discouraged with all the short story/serial gaming going on. :)

The Goosebumps trailer is out.

As is the updated Ecto-1. I have to say, the new Ecto is a bit of a disappointment. It looks kind of blah.

And, on the research front, this website has a great list of different types of hauntings and ghosts. Very useful.

An owl steals hats in Oregon. This is hilarious and I need to add it to my book. Banshee Creek owls go rogue!

Another fabulous Zoe York podcast. This time there's juicy Facebook info. Facebook is such a frustrating experience for me. I made an author business page (which is what everyone recommends) but couldn't get any "likes" for it (cause, duh, I have no books out so no one knows me). I now have a personal author profile (separate from my personal-personal profile, which is all in Spanish and is mostly Puerto Rico gossip) and have managed to collect some interesting author friends. For the first time in YEARS author Facebook is actually fun. Here's my profile in case you want a whole bunch of writing links and Zac Bagans pics littering up your feed. I still have to do that page thingie for the Banshee Creek series, but I think I'll procrastinate that for a while.

Amazon squeezes small presses. Interesting article. There's a lot of small romance presses and I wonder if this is affecting them. Food for thought.

Murakami fans gather at a small sheep farm every year. Every. Single. Year. Dude, that's a lot of sheep chasing.

The world's most haunted bodies of water. Cool! I new about the Bermuda Triangle and the Sargasso Sea, but the rest are kind of obscure.

The importance of Amazon also-boughts. Also, a useful list of places where you can sell your e-book.

The Facebook algorithm hid Mark Zuckerberg's book club thread from the people who had signed up for it. *Facepalm*

Interesting io9 series on how to write/produce a genre TV series (in this case Z Nation). Here's the second installment.

Great Laura Resnick article on covers. Via The Passive Voice. You should check out the PV post which has really great comments and before and after pics of Laura's first (and unbelievably awful) UF cover.

Hugh Howey ponders whether to commit to Amazon exclusivity. Very interesting (and unexpected!) post.

Is Iceland trying to turn its lake monster (I'm not even going to try to spell its name) into a tourist attraction? If so, they need to come up with a catchy nickname.
